The inconceivable – the unbelievable – hits us everyday, when you think about it. From the moment we flip on the morning news, we are bombarded by a world full of crazy. When I turn off the news and turn toward my own living room, I find much the same. Even the ordinary life is full of the inconceivable on many days. Especially this time of year. Add to the everyday this season of expectation, and the recipe is rich. With a big red bow on top.
The Christmas story begins in much the same way. An angel shows up for an unexpected visit and announces to a virgin that she will become pregnant by some holy mystery and bring God in the flesh to live among us. God with us.
Serious. I read it, so it must be true, right? I heard it on the news.
So begins the holidays, and, whispered within busy holiday schedules, quietly questioning through the tinsel and the bows…what is this story? It’s a story that makes no sense. Within the story, a young girl is given some crazy insane news. News that would completely rock her world.
And Mary said… “Let it be with me just as you say.” (Luke 1:26-38)
I wonder, what can life be like if we approach the unbelievable that way?
